He was predeceased by: his parents, James A. Tripp and Letha McGowan Perciful; and his brother Charles A. Tripp. He is survived by: his wife Anna Doggett Cannon; his children, Rachel C. Groves (Todd) of Cumming, GA, Elizabeth C. Morgan (Jamie) of White Salmon, WA, James W. Cannon (Deborah) of Jacksonville, FL and David M. Cannon (Grisselle) of Montreat, NC; his grandchildren, James W. Cannon II (Candice), Jessica Cannon (Matt Hill), Alexandria Cannon (Wesley Fehl), Hannah Groves, Carter Groves, Sarah Groves, Eleanor Groves, McGowan Groves, Kayleigh Bourlet (Chris), Olivia Bostrom (Owen) and Brooke Morgan; and his great grandchildren, Aiden Bourlet, Brooks Bourlet, Ladd Bourlet, Jude Bourlet, Ryker Fehl, Raya Fehl and Mariah West.
Visitation was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Harwood Home For Funerals (208 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
