He was predeceased by: his parents, James D. H. Helms and Virginia Rogers Almond; his wife Jane Mangum Helms; and his sister Grace Medlin. He is survived by: his children, W. C. Helms III (Carla) of Monroe, David Helms (Kathy) of Waxhaw, Steve Helms (Angie) of Waxhaw and Mary Thompson (Dale) of Monroe; and his siblings, James D. H. Helms Jr. of Florida, Jennifer Helms of Edgemoor and Jacqueline Helms of Freeland, Maryland. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
