He was predeceased by: his parents, Conway Thomas and Louise Helms Thomas. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Long Thomas; his siblings, Gale Starnes of Monroe, Kathy Thomas of Marshville, Alvin Thomas of Monroe and L. S. Thomas of Monroe; his nieces and nephews, Adam Thomas, Donny Thomas, Amanda Starnes, Randy Starnes, Charlie Starnes, Bryan Thomas and Crystal Johnson; and his son Jonas Hoy.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
