He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Lee and Myrtle Helms; his grandson Travis Aaron Purser; his son-in-law Jeffrey Lee Purser; and his siblings, Doris Hinson, Carolyn Fowler, Helen Barnhardt and James Donald Helms.
He is survived by: his wife Bernice Peele Helms; his children, Teresa Purser of Monroe, Kim Murray (Greg) of Indian Trail and Michael Helms of Indian Trail; his grandchildren, Lindsay Reep (Austin), Morgan Purser, Kristi Helms (Jason) and Shawn Murray (Brandi); his great grandchild Aubree; and his sisters, Juanita Godfrey and Sarah Swink.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 9th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Davis Chapel - Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Monroe (1003 E Franklin St, Monroe, NC 28112). A funeral service was held on Monday, February 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
