He was predeceased by: his parents, John Thomas Smith (J. T.) and Macie Yandle Smith. He is survived by: his wife Ida Hinson Smith; his sister Ann Smith Beck of Ellerbe, NC; his children, Susanne Smith Miller and John Michael Smith (Lisa); and his grandchildren, Matthew Gregory Miller, Andrew Smith Miller, Hannah Britt Miller, Brittany Nicole Smith Torano (Joe) and Hunter Alexander Smith. He is also survived by his children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Zoar UMC, the Council on Aging or Hospice of Union County.
