He was predeceased by: his parents, Juanita Meares and Gilbert Hall Efird; his wife JoAnn Efird; and his sons, Gilbert Hall Efird III and Michael Jordan Efird.
He is survived by: his sisters, Mary Efird Kepley of Winston Salem and Juanita Efrid of Charlotte; his stepson Fred Motley III of Shelby; his cousin John E. Efrid Jr. of Monroe; his pet Tina; and his caregivers, Kelly Bednarik and Lee Kiser. He is also survived by three granddaughters, three great-grand grandchildren.
