He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Harden and Ada Abernathy Smoot; and his siblings, Helen Sapp, Mary Sykes, Thomas Harden Smoot (TH) and William Smoot (Bill).
He is survived by: his wife Eunice Buffington Smoot; his children, Richard Spencer (Rick) of Arizona, Kenneth Spencer (Melissa) of South Dakota, Pam White (John) of Mocksville and Dr. Meredith Sherrill (Dustyn Williams) of Texas; and his grandchildren, John White II of Virginia and Stellan White of Mocksville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
