He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl McKinley and Glenna Woodring Stanbery; his brother Boyd (Ina Mae); and his sister-in-law Emma Lee (Howard). He is survived by: his wife Shirley Peeks Stanbery; his brother Howard (Luzi); his sons, Bryan (Kim), Brad (Becky) and Eric (Tina); his grandchildren, Josh, Timothy, McKinley (Hailey), Megan (Austin) and Larkin; his great grandchildren, Irie, Adelaide and Jack; and his brothers-in-law, Alan Hill (Joyce) and Eddie Peeks (Sandy).
