He was predeceased by: his parents, James Palmer Rushing and Docie Ellen Rushing (Brantley). He is survived by: his wife Bessie Jane Rushing (Crump); his sons, Michael of Charlotte and David of Madison; his grandchildren, Nicole of Harrisburg, Evan of Charlotte, Hayden of Madison and Zacharie of Clarksville, Indiana.; and his sisters, Kay Dean Faircloth of Monroe and Pat Fowler of Waxhaw.

Visitation was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Wilson Grove Baptist Church (6624 Wilgrove Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Sunset Memory Gardens (8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227).

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wilson Grove Baptist Church in memory of JD Rushing, designated for Operation Christmas Child.
