He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Wilson Cowles and Louise Kelley of Virginia. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Johnson Cowles; his children, Amy Cowles Teas (Buz) of Columbia, SC and Kevin Michael Cowles (Amber) of Kenmare, ND.; his grandsons, Cole Parsons Teas and William Hill Teas of Columbia, SC.; his sister Joyce Cowles Overcash of Concord, NC; and his niece Kelley Overcash Brannon (Kim) of Davidson, NC.. He is also survived by father to his son, daughter and two grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Richard Thomas Memorial Scholarship or the Navy League.
