Donald M. Porter Obituary

Donald M. Porter of Mint Hill, 86, passed away May 26, 2022.

He was born April 16, 1936 to the late Charles Neal and Lois Orr Porter. In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by siblings, J.C. Porter, Paul Porter, Neal Porter, Helen Godwin, and Wayne Porter.

Don was involved in the early formation of the Town of Mint Hill through his work on Community Development, the Mint Hill Jaycees, Babe Ruth baseball, and the Mint Hill Church Softball League. He retired as founder/president of Consolidated Acoustical & Flooring, Inc., a commercial interiors subcontractor, with installations in both NC and SC, including the 35-year management of all Duke Power facilities.

A true man of God, he was as a Deacon at both First Baptist Church of Indian Trail and Mint Hill Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, worked in his children's youth programs, and served on prayer teams and capital campaigns. He also led weekly Bible studies at the Charlotte Rescue Mission for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia McCall Porter; his sister Patsy Green of Concord, NC; his children, Derwin Porter (Donna) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Donna Rogers (Trip) of Mint Hill, NC. He is also survived by his three grandchildren and their families: Grayson Porter and wife Brittany (Kinsley, Maclaren and Lennox), of Indian Trail, NC, Zachary Porter and wife Lindsey (Sabine) of Lincoln, NE, and Kenan Medlin and husband Chris (Benjamin and Anya) of Stallings, NC. His brother-in-law, Brooks McCall, along with dozens of nieces and nephews also survive him.

The family will greet friends in the sanctuary of Mint Hill Baptist Church, 7835 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, on Thursday, June 2 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. followed by a celebration of his life at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Will Stoneham officiating. Burial to follow in the Porter family plot, Evergreen Burial Park, Mint Hill, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Mint Hill Baptist Church.
