He was predeceased by: his parents, Freddie Brisco and Mary Lucille Anderson Smithey; his children, Sue Ann Smithey and Roger Dale Smithey Jr.; and his brother Carl Smithey.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Lyall Smithey; his children, Derick Dale Smithey of North Wilkesboro and Carla Smithey Royal (Randall) of Millers Creek; his brother Robert Smithey (Davida); his grandchildren, Jacob Smithey, Alyssa Royal, Josiah Smithey, Jenny Smithey and Lydia Royal; and his siblings-in-law, Bob Caudill of North Wilkesboro and Mollie Smithey of North Wilkesboro. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
