He was predeceased by: his parents, Ardle Darnell and Cordie Woodie Darnell; and his siblings, Dwight, Gary Darnell, Mildred Bowlin, Peggy Hart and Linda Barker.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Adams Darnell; his son Matthew Dale Darnell (Danielle) of Kingsport, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Gavin Darnell, Mason Call, Chase Call, Tyler Call, Kennah Crumbley, Parker Crumbley, Raegan Crumbley and Haddie Crumbley; and his siblings, Bill Darnell (Barbara) of North Wilkesboro, Rocky Darnell (Pat) of Wilkesboro, J. D and Joyce Pruitt (Jerry) of Laurel Springs.
