He was predeceased by: his father Edgar Jones Hamby, Jr (Brona Rae Staley); and his brother Ronnie Hamby. He is survived by: his wife Judy Kay Minton Hamby; his son Chad Van Hamby (Amanda) of Wilkesboro; his granddaughters, Ella Grace Hamby and Addison Layne Hamby; and his brothers, Rayvon Hamby of Millers Creek, Kevin Hamby (Kathy) of Millers Creek and Steve Hamby (Geraldine) of Statesville.
