He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Shepherd and Artie Shepherd; his son Daniel Jason Shepherd; and his siblings, Jack Shepherd, Virgil Shepherd and Marie Sheets.

He is survived by: his wife Rosie Lee Shepherd; his sons, Gregory Alan Shepherd of Millers Creek and Christopher Earl Shepherd (Krystal) of Millers Creek; his siblings-in-law, Teresa Alden (Dave) of Hudson, Homer Wayne of Moravian Falls and Junior Ray Wayne (Amanda) of Millers Creek; and his nephew Jeff Sheets (Susan) of Mulberry. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
