She was predeceased by: her parents, David Lawrence and Edna Ruth Spruill Smith; her husband Larry Sidney Hughes; and her brothers, Lawrence Minton Smith and David Early Smith.
She is survived by: her daughter Jennifer Evans (Henry) of Merry Hill; her siblings, Mary Belangia of Edenton, Joyce White of Edenton, Louise Bunch of Hertford and Walter Smith of Edenton; her granddaughters, Hanna (David), Jada, Leah and Haley; and her great grandchild Levi.
