She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred Barkley and Mary Barkley of Newton; her brother John Barkley of Charlotte; and her nephew Chris Barkley of Charlotte. She is survived by: her husband Richard of Chapel Hill; her daughter Katherine Ducker Umber; her son-in-law Aaron Umber of San Francisco; her grandsons, George and Alexander; and her nephew Andy Barkley of Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to United Church of Chapel Hill, to the Charles House eldercare center in Chapel Hill that she enjoyed for several years, and to the national neurodegenerative research organization CurePSP.
