He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth Paxton; his parents, Roland Paxton and Thelma Truman Hughart; his brother Darryl Peggs; and his stepfather Marshall Gibson.
He is survived by: his son Keith Anthony Paxton (Amy Campbell) of Mebane; his stepsisters, Nancy Taylor of Dunbar and Kendra Blanton of Clay; and his sister-in-law Donna Crittendon of Campbells Creek.

He was a retired clerk for Conrail, a member of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division from 1957 to 1960 and was still an active participant of the Screaming Eagles Foundation of the 101st Airborne Division Association.
