He is survived by: his siblings, Coy Kirby of Mebane, Lucy McBroom of Mebane and Clara Cobb of Yanceyville; his children, Ronald R. Kirby (Amie) of Rocky Mount, Virginia, Dr. Sharon K. Thompson (Randy), Jeffrey D. Kirby (Cindie) of Mebane, NC and Wendy K. Holt (Sean) of Graham, NC.; his grandchildren, Andrew Thompson (Christa), Lee Mann (Karla), Traci Leach (Chad), Mandilyn Fink (Michael), Chelcy Kirby, Kaci Turner (Colton), Jeffrey Kirby, Jr. (Jasmine), Clayton Kirby and Jacob Holt (Ali); and his niece Mary Kirby Foster. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
