He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Doreen Gamble Burgess and Andrew Burgess; his wife Jeannie Heath Burgess; his daughter Nicole Johnson (Josh); his grandson Gabriel Johnson; and his sister Elizabeth Mangum (Don).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alamance Regional Medical Center.
