He was predeceased by: his parents, C. B. Shafer and Daisy Shafer; his children, Kathy Gerringer Barrier and Calvin Gerringer (Sherrie); and his granddaughter Courtney Barrier Rhew.
He is survived by: his wife Gladys Caviness Shafer; his children, Steve, Scott Shafer, Terri Gerringer Staley (Tony), Lorrie Gerringer Hancock (Bobby) and Donna Gerringer Cauthren (Ricky); and his siblings, Ardean Shafer, William M. Shafer and Ann Pearson. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
