He was predeceased by: his parents, Spencer Coleman and Margaret Shumate; and his brother Ronnie Shumate. He is survived by: his wife Karen Kennedy Shumate; his children, Rusty Shumate of McGrady and Kendall Shumate (Ryan Scott) of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Kayden Morgan and Kamryn Scott; and his siblings, Robert Shumate (Debbie) of McGrady, Dwayne Shumate (Jeanette) of McGrady and Kathy Osborne (Dale) of North Wilkesboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
