He was predeceased by: his son Stanley Todd Metts; his grandsons, Tolson Kennedy Metts (Ricky) and Steven Andrew Metts (Sidney Jr.); his parents, Joseph Martin and Hattie Mae Jarman Metts; and his siblings, Ivey, Joseph Franklin, Gene, Hilda, Margaret, Faye and Gladys.

He is survived by: his wife Lucy Bender Metts; his children, Sidney Martin Metts, Jr. (Dina Metts), Ricky Lee Metts and Donna Metts Venable (Richard Venable); his grandchildren, William Tyler Metts, Nicole Summer Metts, Allison Sarah Venable, Theodore "Theo" McKenzie Metts, Brady Hutcherson Venable, Madison Bianca Metts and Christopher Tyler Miranda; his brothers, Carlton Metts (Anne), Nelson Metts (Melba), Ray Metts and Bruce Metts (Thelma); his siblings-in-law, Patricia Metts (Ivey), Annette Metts (Gene) and Chester Heath (Faye); and his nieces, Delilah, Jerri Rogers and Natalie Crawford.
