He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin "Dee" Johnson and Ruth Frances Banks Johnson; and his pets, Max, Speckles and Lacey.

He is survived by: his children, Shawna Johnson Henderson (Chris) of Raleigh and Colton Dwain Johnson (Alexandra) of Canton; and his sisters, Cathie Johnson Foster (Steve) of Gibsonville, Sherri Johnson Miller (Chuck) of Jacksonville and Layla.
