He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie A. Chavis and Etta Mae Chavis; his brothers, Dexter Chavis and Donald K. Chavis; and his granddaughter Katie Clark.
He is survived by: his wife Francis Chavis; his children, Ramona Clark (Kevin) of Maxton, Fran Bullard (Jennings) of Pembroke, Willie R. Chavis of Maxton, Billy R. Chavis (Heather) of Maxton and Sidney Chavis of Maxton; his siblings, Jackie C. Locklear of Maxton, Judy C. Locklear of Maxton, Josie Beasley (Donnie) of Maxton, Marie Jarrett (Tom) of Fayetteville and Clyde Lowery of Fayetteville; and his nephew Stephen K. Chavis. He is also survived by fifteen grand children and three great grandchildren.
