He was predeceased by : his parents, Eddie Strong and Mary Lowery Hunt; and his close friend Sarah Bullard. He is survived by : his sister Connie Strong of Fairmont; his cousin David Strong (Lori) of Maxton; his stepchildren, Walter Allen Benton and Melinda Ann Benton of Fayetteville; and his grandfather John. He is also survived by niece, two granddaughters, two grandsons, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, June 28th 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Heritage Funeral Home (812 S Main St, Red Springs, NC 28377). A memorial service was held on Friday, June 28th 2024 at 8:00 PM at the same location.
