He was predeceased by: his parents, William Rainey Hawkins and Martha Inez Harris Hawkins; his wife Merrie Rose Caldwell; and his brothers, Richard Daryl Hawkins and Thomas Albert Hawkins.
He is survived by: his children, William R. "Billy" Hawkins III (Cathy) of Stallings, NC and Merrie Elizabeth "Beth" Kinney of Mint Hill, NC; his grandchildren, William Brandon Hawkins, Olivia Catherine Hawkins and Nathaniel Dale Kinney; his brother Ronald Harris Hawkins (Margaret) of Chapel Hill, NC; his sisters-in-law, Trudy Hawkins of Cary, NC and Patricia Wells of Nebo, NC; and his close friend Dot Lybrand. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews.
