He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy Benton and Jacquelin "Jackie" Benton (Smith). He is survived by: his children, Sarah E. Benton of Raleigh and Dr. Stewart Michael Benton, Jr. (Grace) of York, Pennsylvania.; his sister Shari B. Smith (Bill); his niece Ashley S. Speight (Chris); his great-nephew William Callahan Speight; and his brother-in-law Eugene H. Crosby, Jr. (Audrey). He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation was held on Friday, January 10th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Heritage Funeral Home (3700 Forest Lawn Dr, Matthews, NC 28104). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
