She is survived by: her former spouse Philby Patch; her children, Valerie Schild (Timothy Schild) of Portsmouth, VA, Kevin Patch (Shawn Woody) of Matthews, NC and Bransen Patch of Charlotte, NC; her brother James Shoemaker of Lake George, NY.; and her grandchildren, Samantha Norris, Jacob Huggins, Vanessa Patch and Autumn McCargo. She is also survived by three great grandchildren.

She was recognized by People magazine for her expertise, talented teaching strategies and contributions to education.
