He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Scales Hargett, Sr. and Kathleen Stewart Hargett; and his brothers, Robert Scales Hargett, Jr., Edward Stewart Hargett and James Crawford Hargett.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Prebeck; his children, Melissa H. Beck (Michael) and Frederick McDowell Hargett, Jr. (Diane); and his grandchildren, Sarah Grace Beck, Anna Katherine Beck, Michael Wriston Beck, Frederick McDowell Hargett, III and Elisabeth Mae Hargett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Men's Homeless Fund, Matthews Presbyterian Church, 207 West John Street, Matthews, NC. To honor his military experience and love of country, memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
