He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Haley and Virginia Haley; his sister Virle Equils; his grandson Duncan Haley; and his pet Bunky.
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Spencer (David) of Lincolnton, NC, Machelle Hughes of Gastonia, NC and Fred E. Haley Jr. of Gastonia, NC; his nieces, Nadia and Stephanie; and his close friend Danelle Lambert. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
