He was predeceased by: his parents, Odell "Neb" and Edith Webb Murphy; and his brother Odell E. Murphy. He is survived by: his wife Fran B. Murphy; his daughters, Melody M. Lovelace (Tommy), Christy M. Crowder (Wayne) and Candi M. Adams (Isaiah); his siblings, Junior Ray Murphy (Angela) and Marie M. Goldman (Fred); and his sister-in-law Helen Pokrzywa (Ed). He is also survived by ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
