She was predeceased by: her parents, William Rom Barrett (Willie) and Plutina Crawford Barrett; her husband Emory Ernest Briggs; her son Emory J. Briggs; her granddaughter Mary Angela Briggs Whitten; her great grandchild Dustin Earl Towery; and her siblings, Savada Barrett Ponder, D. B. Barrett and Floyd Barrett.
She is survived by: her children, Loretta Ballard (Shelby) of Weaverville, Bernard Briggs (Brenda) of Mars Hill, Sammy Briggs (Phyllis) of Weaverville and Ray Bruce Briggs (Magdalene) of Asheville. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
