It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Reuben E. Payne Jr. of Manteo, North Carolina, who passed away on November 14, 2020, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Essie Dough Payne and Reuben Elliott Payne, Sr.; and his former wife Jane Zegopulos Payne. He is survived by: his wife Jean Branson Payne of Manteo; his sister Jean Payne Basnight (SC) of Manteo, NC; his children, Martin Payne (Betty) of Portsmouth, VA, John Payne (Kelly) of Smithfield, David Branson (Ahissa) of Greensboro, NC, Sarah Garrity (Steve) of Newport News, VA. and Cheryl Branson Short of Virginia Beach, VA; his grandchildren, Marie Payne, Chris Garrity, Meghan Garrity, Morgan Short, Wayne Short (Amy), Emma Branson, Ava Branson and William Branson; and his great grandchildren, Connor Short and Liam Short.
