He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry Newton, Sr. and Helen James Newton; and his nephew Brian James Watkins. He is survived by: his sister Mary Edith Newton Watkins (John) of Manson; his nephew Brent Gregory Watkins (Rebecca) of Rocky Mount; and his great-nephew Jacob Nicholas Watkins of Rocky Mount.
