He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucy Bratton Midgette Gibbs and Claude Gaither Midgette; his stepfather William F. Gibbs; his stepson Dirk Ashley Sellers; and his brother Claude Henderson Midgette.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Ann Heans Midgette; his children, Jennifer Ann Midgette (Shepherd Lane) of Raleigh, NC, Cheryl Ann Evans (Philip) of Florida, Billy Gaither Midgette, Jr. (Amy) of Wanchese, NC and Timothy David Steele (Cindy) of Georgia; his grandchildren, Taylor Steele, Berrach Rogers, Hannah Midgette, Rachel Midgette, Kara Sellers, Katherine Sellers and Derik Sellers; his great grandchildren, Adrianna, Hunter, Noah, Silas, Carli and Tide; and his sister-in-law Susan Irvine Midgette.
