He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Barrett and Alta Hayes Barrett; his spouse Oneda Overcash; and his siblings, Bob Barrett, Shirley Hall and Lucille Sullivan.
He is survived by: his children, Joseph Barrett and Cynthia Garner of Newton; his sisters, Geraldine Hedrick of Conover and Arlene Pero (Armand) of Statesville; his stepson Stanley Overcash of Maiden; and his stepson-in-law Paul Neal of Maiden.
