He is survived by: his wife Rita Cody Coates; his children, Sonya Coates Quinn (Brandon) and Stewart Coates (Nikita); his siblings, Ella Mae Norton, Emma Kay Moffitt (Chris), Lloyd Coates (Wilma), Bernard Coates (Kathryn), Bulah Coates (Deborah), Arvol Coates (Joyce), JC Coates (Teresa), Eldridge Coates and Coleman Cody; and his grandchildren, Chip Coates (Catherine), Carlie Rath (John), Mattie Quinn, Scarlett Quinn and Brandon Quinn, Jr.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
