He was predeceased by: his father Buddy Hoover Shelton. He is survived by: his mother Norma Jean Fulcher Shelton; his son James Matthew Shelton; his siblings, Ray Lee Shelton (Michelle), Faye S. Shelton (Lewis), Ronnie Clay Shelton (Peggy) and Chesley Ross Shelton; his nephews, John Shelton, Benjamin Shelton (Natalie) and Saddie Raines Shelton; and his niece Leigh Fagg (Clint). He is also survived by three great-nieces.
