She was predeceased by : her parents, Hugh Bryan and Louise A. Young Bryan; and her sister Barbara Cooksey Howard. She is survived by : her husband Douglas Merle Hempstead; her children, Corrine "Cory" Lawler (Kyle) of Paul's Valley, OK and David Wayne Johnson (Shannon) of Colfax; her stepsons, Rod (Sheena) and Matthew (Angie); and her sister Janet Bryan Hempstead. She is also survived by three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Macon UMC, 107 Church Street, Macon, NC 27551.
