He was predeceased by: his parents, James Arthur Brown and Annie Bruce Whitfield Brown; his wife Ella Margaret Thigpen Brown; his daughter Angela Denise Brown; and his siblings, Willie Brown (Mookie), James Brown (Pete), Gene Brown, Larry Raymond Brown, Catherine Brown and Beulah Dowdy.
He is survived by: his children, Luther Ray Thigpen of Pinetops, NC, Leroy Thigpen (Katina) of Rocky Mount, NC, Amanda Thigpen of Tarboro, NC, Milton Ray Brown (Vicky) of Pinetops, NC, Regina Brown Bush (William) of Pinetops, NC, James Arthur Brown (Kathy) of Pinetops, NC and Delois Brown-Alston (Ronnie) of Burlington, NC.; his siblings, George Brown of Rocky Mount, NC, Rayford Jimmie Brown (Belle) of Nashville, NC, Gladys Speight of Rocky Mount, NC, Betty Cauthen (David) of Rocky Mount, NC, Bessie Yancey of Rocky Mount, NC, Brenda Taylor (Anthony) of Tamarac and Carol Poole (Harry) of Norfolk, VA; his adoptive children, Eric Hixon, Tim Parker, Elder Calvin Cherry, Reverend Jr., Neal and Angela Cherry; and his brother-in-law Harry Dobson. He is also survived by twenty four grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
