With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Nancy Washington (Lumberton, North Carolina), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on December 13, 2024 at the age of 97. She was predeceased by: her parents, Eddie Buchanan and Nancy Buchanan; her sisters, Marzella B. Smith and Clara Ruth Nicolson; her son Rascoe Washington, Jr.; and her grandsons, David St. John Washington and Keithan Khalil Lynch.
She is survived by: her son David E. Washington; her daughter-in-law Marilyn Merritt of Lumberton, NC; her grandchildren, Tammy Lynch (Keith) of Lumberton, NC, Bernadette Washington of Lumberton, NC, Kewanda Merritt English (Gordon) of Lumberton, NC, Wanette Washington of Hope Mills, NC and Darren Crump (Cierra) of Tallahassee, Florida; and her sister Rosa Mae McArn of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Life Leggett-Patterson Funeral Home (320b E 24th St, Lumberton, NC 28358). A funeral service was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Greater Chrysolite A. M. E. Zion Church (1307 Meadow Rd, Lumberton, NC 28358). She was the driving force behind the annual McArn Family Reunions that were held 52 years in a row before Covid.
