He was predeceased by: his former wife Betty Neal Simpson. He is survived by: his wife Mell Simpson; his children, Gail Simpson Morris (Robert T. Jr.) of Raleigh and Robert Donald Simpson, Jr. of Lucama; and his grandchildren, Caroline, Thomas, Brooke, Taylor and Rob. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
