He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert N. Atkinson and Ella Mae Guthrie Atkinson; and his granddaughter Dolly Easter. He is survived by: his wife Loretta Best Atkinson; his children, James E. Atkinson, Jr. (Vada) of Tennessee, Robert Atkinson (Donna), Chris Atkinson of Virginia and Rhonda Atkinson of Virginia; his stepson Kenny Easter (Amanda) of Elm City; his brother-in-law Doug Best of Wilson; and his mother-in-law Evelyn Taylor Best of Wilson. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
