She was predeceased by: her father Walter Landon Fortenberry. She is survived by: her mother Irene Jenkins Fortenberry of Lincolnton; her husband David J. Helms; her daughters, Jennifer Lemons (Bradley) of Maiden and Candace Silver (Steve) of Banner Elk; and her sister Lori Lawing.

Memorials may be made to Hartman's Havens Dog Rescue in Conover, NC.
