He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl McDonald and Edna Eaker McDonald; his sister Elsie McDonald Cloninger; his brother-in-law Max Cloninger; and his nephew Robert Cloninger.
He is survived by: his wife Esther Hutchins McDonald; his daughters, Leah Miller (Brian) of Lincolnton, NC and Karen Bennett (Adam) of Rutherfordton, NC; and his grandchildren, Ellie Miller, Lorelai Miller, Alex Bennett and Melina Bennett.
