It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kay Chandler Whitener of Lincolnton, North Carolina, born in Kingsport, Tennessee, who passed away on June 24, 2021, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Dudley C. Chandler, Sr. and Georgia Totten Chandler King; her sisters, Judy Robinson and Martha Hickey; and her children, Rusty Whitener, Eric Whitener and Joan Vandeusen.

She is survived by: her husband Henry E. Whitener; her daughter Lee O'Malley (John) of Matthews; her brother Dudley Chandler (Winborne) of Winston-Salem; and her grandchildren, Chris O'Malley (Rebecca) of Matthews, Mark O'Malley of Huntersville, Erin Taylor of Steamboat Springs, CO and Taylor Weese of Denver. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.

“I was shocked today when Erson called to find out Kay was no longer with us! I always looked at her and Erson as second loving parents to me while married to their son Eric which I miss every day of my life. Such a blessing it was to me to be part of this family. I will always cherish her in my heart as I have done for Eric, Joan and Rusty!! I’m glad she is home with those 3 children she missed so much!! Always in my thoughts and prayers!!”
