He was predeceased by: his parent Harvey A. Jonas Sr.; his wife Celeste Abernethy Jonas; his daughter Susan Jonas Jenkins Chapman; and his sisters, Martha Sadri and Mary Lillian Conley Brown.
He is survived by: his parent Maude Crowell Jonas; his children, Anna Jonas Fortenberry (Ken) of Boone and Harvey Andrew Jonas of Lincolnton; his brother Ralph T. Jonas of Huntersville; his grandchildren, Rebecca Jenkins Pomeroy (Todd) of Lincolnton, Angela Fortenberry Payne (Jason) of Summerville, SC, Leslie F. Thomas of Denver, Richard H. Jenkins Jr (Lynn), Jonas H. Fortenberry of Atlanta, Benjamin Fortenberry (Jennifer) of Belmont and John Fortenberry of Concord; and also Congressman Charles R. Jonas.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Honor Flight Network, the Boy Scouts of America, the Levine-Dickson Hospice House or to the First United Methodist Church in Lincolnton.
