He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Allen Ghant and Eva Mae Wright; and his siblings, Dorothy Arevalo, Mildred Freeman, Fred Wright, Robert Wright and Odell Wright.

He is survived by: his wife JoAnn Houser Ghant; his sons, Ernie Ghant, Jr. (Kim) of Asheville and Michael Ghant (April) of Blacksburg, SC; and his grandchildren, Wes, Ben, David, Jillian and Madalyn Ghant. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
