He is survived by: his parent Dessie Warren McSwain; his sister-in-law George Smith McSwain of Gastonia; his sister Barbara M. McGinnis of Gastonia; his brother-in-law Donald McGinnis of Gastonia; and also Marlene B. McSwain of Gastonia. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Billy G. McSwain, Jr. and Donna McSwain of Dallas, George Marvin "Ted" McSwain and Jami McSwain of Gastonia, Ray Jennings McSwain and Carla McSwain of Hardin, Grace Carr and Danny Carr of Stanley, and Emily Miller and Steve Miller of Taylors, SC; brother.
